away from water, take up with dry material wearing respiratory equipment and protective
clothing. Protect against water. Dispose of the taken-
up product in accordance with 'waste disposal'.
SECTION 7
HANDLING AND STORAGE
Handling
:
Avoid dust formation and accumulation. Ensure good
ventilation. When handling large amounts, take precautionary measures against
build-up of electrostatic charge. Avoid impact, friction and build-up
of electrostatic charge; risk of ignition. Earth tanks and plant
properly. Use antistatically treated equipment. Instructions for protection
against fire and explosion; keep away from sources of ignition-no smoking.
Take preventive measures against build-up of electrostatic charge (earth
during transfer). Avoid jolts and friction. Avoid dust formation.
Storage
:
Keep only in the original container in a cool,
well-ventilated place away from acids. Storage stability: storage time <24
months.
Requirements for packing
:
Keep
container hermetically closed. Protect against
atmospheric moisture and water. Store and handle
under nitrogen. Protect against heat.

Circumstances to avoid
:
Risk of dust explosion; spontaneously decomposes,
emitting, hydrogen sulphide, on contact with water; reactions with acids,
alkalis and oxidizing agents; formation of toxic and flammable hydrogen
sulphide. Danger of explosion (Explosion limits of hydrogen
sulphide in air 4.3 - 46%)

SECTION 11
TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Acute toxicity
:
Oral: (LD50) 389
mg/kg. Species rat.
Topical effects
:
Low irritating to eyes and skin.
Other effects
:
Toxic when inhaled in aerosol form. Toxic effects on the
central nervous system, with cramps, breathing problems and unconsciousness.
Inhalation can cause damage to the respiratory system and
lungs. The toxicity data for
the pure substance cannot be determined, because the product decomposes or
reacts spontaneously in the presence of moisture. The specified data relate
to the decomposition or reaction products.
SECTION 12
ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Very small amounts of the product are harmful to fish and
bacteria. For this reason it should be separated by sedimentation
followed by oxidation with chlorine bleach before discharge into the sewage
network. When discharged into water, there is a risk that large amounts of
hydrogen sulphide will form spontaneously. The product decomposes
spontaneously in water. The ecological information thus relates to the
effect of the decomposition products.
SECTION 13
DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
Method of disposal
:
Product can be disposed of in a special incineration
facility after pre-treatment, provided the special waste regulations are
complied with. Unknown emissions into the air must be eliminated by flue gas
scrubbing.
Disposal of packaging
:
Corroded or soiled packaging must be disposed of in the
same way as the product.
SECTION 14
TRANSPORT INFORMATION
Flammable powder ignites on friction avoid rough roads
while driving. Cover drums with Tarpaulin to avoid contact of rain
water/moisture. Incase of fire put it off with dry sand or carbon gas. Do not use
water to extinguish fire. If affected by gas, move to dry space. Give
soda water or stimulants like hot and strong tea or coffee. Unload drums
carefully by using ramp.
