Subacute to chronic toxicity :

Red phosphorus is not readily absorbed and is considered non-poisonous. If contaminated by yellow phosphorus, nausea,abdominal pain, vomiting and garlic odor on breath may occur. Phosphine gas, which may be evolved, is flammable and toxic.
